Bathing Water Profile: Ballyholme

Ballyholme beach is located in the seaside town of Bangor and features a 1.3km crescent of sandy beach  with a rocky shore and rock pools at each end.  It is used all year round by bathers and watersports enthusiasts including windsurfers.  It is predominantly backed by a seawall and promenade which leads towards Ballymacormick Point, a rocky outcrop between Ballyholme and the beautiful seaside village of Groomsport.  The beach has a number of groynes which are barriers to slow down erosion and they add sediment to the beach by capturing downward drift.

Ballyholme Yacht Club is located at the western end as are the public toilets and a children’s play area.
