Bathing Water Profile: Clogherhead

Clogherhead  is a fishing village with a harbour named Mount Oriel, 70km north of Dublin in Co Louth, situated on the east coast between the Mournes and Howth.   The beach is nearly a mile long and gently sloping, it has an area of dunes and also rocks to the north which are outside the designated bathing area and are partially submerged at high tide.  It is considered to have the best fishing waters in Ireland and grey seals are commonly spotted and black guillemots. It is a Special Area of Conservation and is listed as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
