Bathing Water Profile: Newcastle

Newcastle beach famously has a gentle slope with the majestic Mountains of Mourne in the background.   It is comprised of sand, pebbles and stones and approx. 2.5km in length and can be accessed via stairs or a slipway.  This seaside town features shops and amusements and a tourist/visitor information centre.  The beach is located within the Mournes and Slieve Croob Area of Outstanding Beauty and the Murlough Special Area for Conservation which can be reached walking northwards along the sand dunes.  In season there is a Life guard service.  There is a restriction on dog access to the beach from 1 April – 30 September.
